Am I covered by travel insurance if I'm pregnant?

If you’re pregnant (or become pregnant) while travelling, your travel insurance will be affected.

What does your coverage offer?

  • Emergency medical care for unforeseen illnesses and injuries within the first 31 weeks of pregnancy

  • Trip cancellation should your doctor declare anytime between the time that you purchased your policy to the start date of your trip that you’re not in the right state to travel

What may not be covered?

As pregnancy is considered a pre-existing medical condition, any normal expenses caused by or related to pregnancy within the first 31 weeks are not covered under this policy. This also includes travelling home if a family member is having a baby. Other items that may not be covered:

  • Routine prenatal care such as ultrasounds and blood tests

  • A child born during your trip

  • Childbirth or complications of childbirth

  • Pregnancy or complications within the nine weeks before or any time after the expected date of delivery

  • Fertility treatments

This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms and conditions of the policy.  It is important you read and understand your policy as it contains benefits, conditions, exclusions and pre-existing condition exclusions.  If you do not understand your coverage or if you have questions, just ask us.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. And best wishes for the new baby to come!
