Support a community development project with a micro-donation with you buy with us.

We believe that as travelers we have a responsibility to give back.

This is why we founded the Footprints program. When you buy travel insurance with us, you can choose to add a small donation to your policy price to help fund a community development project.

We work with reputable charities and NGOs and absorb the administration costs, so that 100% of your donation goes directly to the project of your choice.

How the Footprints program works

Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals

All projects we fund align with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, which strive to help end poverty, protect the planet and shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path.

One organisation we fund is the Sea Turtle Conservarcy. Watch the video to learn more about how they support the conservation of turtles around the world.

FAQs

  • What is Footprints?
Footprints is your chance to leave a tiny positive footprint in the world. Our Footprints program collects micro-donations to fund community projects around the globe that help end extreme poverty, improve education, promote equality, and conserve endangered wildlife. 100% of all donations raised go directly to projects.

Take a look at the open projects you can donate to right now. Or see the difference we've already made with these completed projects.
  • Why did World Nomads start the Footprints program?
Because it’s a good idea! We believe there is a moral obligation to give a little back to the communities in which we travel. The Footprints Network was founded by World Nomads as an online philanthropy project to do just that. Read the history to find out more.
  • Who manages the Footprints organization?
Although World Nomads founded The Footprints Network back in 2005, these days it is an independent Incorporated Association, run by a committee. It is a secular, not-for-profit organization with two types of partners – charity partners who look after the projects (i.e. where donations go) and online business partners (i.e. where donations come from).

Find out more about The Footprints Network.
  • How can I donate to a Footprints project?
When you purchase a policy with us, you can select one of three active projects to give your micro-donation to. You can give $2, $3, $5, or $10, or you can choose not to donate at all.

For Brazilian residents, unfortunately, we cannot offer you the Footprints donation option.

100% of your money goes directly to the project you choose.
  • How do I know my money will be used for the cause I donated to?
The Footprints Network works with a range of registered non-profits and charity partners to identify projects, and then funds these projects through online micro-donations. We use APIs to record the link between your donation and your chosen project. Once a project has reached its target amount, we will donate all the funds raised for that project to the charity to commence the work.

We do not directly undertake projects ourselves, as we believe the charity partners we work with have far greater experience and local expertise already working in the field.

The Footprints Network charity partners are bound by agreements to use your donation for the project it was raised for. Additionally, as a registered not-for-profit Association Incorporated in NSW, Australia, Footprints is audited each year to ensure 100% donations go where they're intended.
  • How can World Nomads help fund my project?
Unfortunately, we are not accepting new proposals for projects or any new charity partnerships at the moment, as we have already committed to funding projects for our existing charity partners.

That being said, World Nomads and The Footprints Network may consider new charity partners if your project is directly influenced by or contributing to the tourism industry of a region.

If this applies to your organization, please contact us with more details of the project.

Please note: you must be a registered not-for-profit organization or charity to receive funding.
