On the 9-day trip, you'll chase the Northern Lights aboard a Hurtigruten Norwegian Coastal Express voyage, receive mentoring from award-winning creatives Dan and Zora Avila, and shoot with new gear thanks to Fujifilm, Think Tank and more.

I don’t have a link to my photos/video, can I upload it instead?
Uploading your photos/video submission to World Nomads website is not possible. If you don’t have your content saved online, you will need to add it to an online platform (e.g. cloud storage, social media, blog etc) before sharing the link with us. Remember, your link must be publicly accessible and not set to private so our judging team can review your work. If this is not done, your entry will be invalid. Please also avoid using services where a link may expire before our judging team have had a chance to review it.

I shot my travel story using a phone. Will it have a chance?
Photography and video will be judged based on Creativity (33%), Emotion (33%) and Execution (33%). So, while quality is important, it is only one factor. We appreciate great images and video are being shot on phones and encourage you to enter if you think you have a great visual travel story to share, no matter what you used to capture it.

What will the Scholarship trip be like?
The winners will travel to Norway to meet a 9-day Hurtigruten Norwegian Coastal Express voyage from Bergen to Tromsø, departing on 19 October 2023. On the trip, you will work alongside Dan and Zora Avila to gain invaluable mentoring and hands-on experience in travel photography and film. You'll learn everything from shot set-up, technique and composition through to insights into their many years of diverse experience working around the globe. You will also be given a real life assignment brief before the trip starts, and work with Dan and Zora to capture these shots while on location. These will be submitted to World Nomads and our scholarship partners after the trip and may be used on websites, social media, marketing and more.

Dan and Zora Avila are award-winning travel creatives. They run Cakewalk Media, a full-service production house, producing world-class photo, video and editorial for global brands and leading publications such as BBC and NatGeo. They are also set to star in Travel Shooters, a new TV series following their adventures around the world.
Dan and Zora are busting to share their knowledge with our scholarship winners by offering tailored guidance on both technical and industry skills to help them take their passion to the next level.

Hurtigruten Norwegian Coastal Express
The Hurtigruten Norwegian Coastal Express The North Cape Express – Half Voyage will take our winners from Bergen, to North Cape at the top of Europe and finish in the Arctic city of Tromsø. Winners will enjoy a Polar Outside cabin, have main meals and drinks provided plus learn about local communities and join a range of exciting excursions as they travel along the coast.
