Travel Scholarship 2024

Important: Please read these rules before entering this Scholarship Program (the “Program”).

1. By applying for this Scholarship (Entrant), you agree to be bound by these Conditions of Entry. All decisions of the Scholarship promoter (World Nomads), are final in all matters relating to the Scholarship. Any changes to these conditions of entry will be published on the World Nomads website at worldnomads.com.
2. The Promoter is WorldNomads.com Pty Limited ABN 62 127 485 198 (World Nomads) of Governor Macquarie Tower, Level 18, 1 Farrer Place, Sydney, NSW, 2000, Australia.

Application Period

3. Applications are open from 2 April 2024 (12:01am Eastern Daylight Time) to 1 May 2024 (11:59pm EDT) (Application Period). All applications must be received during the Application Period. Applications are deemed to be received at the time of receipt by World Nomads and World Nomads records are conclusive as to the time of receipt. All dates are subject to change if necessary, at World Nomads' discretion.

Eligibility Criteria

4. This Competition is open to residents of any country or jurisdiction, who are at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in the relevant jurisdiction (whichever is older) by the end of the application period, except where the Competition is prohibited by law in the jurisdiction in which the Entrant is a resident or where the Competition is subject to registration requirements by World Nomads (including without limitation, Italy, Colombia, Brazil, Quebec, Crimea, Iran, Syria, North Korea, and Sudan); and

Entrants must

1. not be professional Content Creators (derive more than 25% of your income from content creation); be available and able to produce and deliver assigned content deliverables by late July 2024
2. not be employees of World Nomads, GoPro, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Minor Hotel Group, NOMADasaurus, and/or Eagle Creek and/or any of their respective parent companies, affiliate companies, subsidiaries, agents, professional advisors, and/or advertising and promotional agencies, and/or immediate family members of each and those living in their households. World Nomads reserves the right to request proof of eligibility.
3. be available to travel to and be in Thailand, arriving 14 June 2024 and departing by 24 June 2024. Please note that dates are subject to change and are to be confirmed with winners before accepting the prize.
4. Have a valid passport with at least 6 months’ validity at time of this travel;
5. Be able to secure a visa to travel to Thailand (if necessary), and arrange this themselves at their own cost, prior to travel;

5. To submit a valid application (one entry permitted per person), you must, during the Application Period:
   • Visit the World Nomads Scholarship page at www.worldnomads.com/create/scholarships/2024
   • Complete an application form, which includes your Personal Information (contact details) and detail in 100 words on why you should win a Content Creator Scholarship; and
   • Share a link in the application form to a piece of publicly posted/accessible travel content you have created. The content must:
   • showcase a travel story, experience or location;
   • be an image, video, blog or vlog post that is in English;
   • take 2 minutes maximum to review in full (view, watch or read);
   • not have been published previously or have been used to win prizes in any other promotions;
   • be posted for public access/or via a public account. Any content that is unable to be publicly viewed will be automatically disqualified. and
   • be visual (image or video (no podcasts)). Related writing or voice over is allowed for creative context.
6. Should your Travel Content reach the final round of judging you will be contacted by World Nomads to provide additional information in order to confirm your eligibility for the Scholarship and you will be required to attend a short interview online via Zoom. You must respond to the email within the stated time-frame (approximately 1 week) to remain in the running for the Scholarship.
7. World Nomads reserves the right to verify the validity of any entry, including the Entrant's identity and age. 
8. Entrants who violate these Terms and Conditions, violate any law, rule or regulation in connection with participation in the Program, tamper with the operation of the Program or engage in any conduct that is detrimental or unfair to World Nomads, the Program or any other entrant (in each case as determined at World Nomads sole discretion) are subject to disqualification from entry into the Program. 
9. Entrants warrant and agree that:
1. they will not submit any Content that is unlawful or fraudulent, or that World Nomads may deem in breach of any intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights, defamatory, obscene, derogatory, pornographic, sexually inappropriate, violent, abusive, harassing, threatening, objectionable with respect to race, religion, origin, or gender, not suitable for children aged under 15, or otherwise unsuitable for publication;
2. their Content shall not contain viruses or cause injury or harm to any person or entity;
3. they will obtain prior consent from any person or from the owner(s) of any property that appears in their Content;
4. the Content is the original literary work of the entrant that does not infringe the rights of any third party;
5. they consent to any use of the Content which may otherwise infringe their creator's/creators' moral rights pursuant to the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) and warrant that they have the full authority to grant these rights or otherwise obtained any such consents in relation to third parties' creations (if any) in the Content.
10. Without limiting any other terms herein, the Entrant agrees to indemnify World Nomads for any breach of clause 8.
11. By entering, Entrants grant a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable, and sub-licensable licence to World Nomads and World Nomads Partners to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, or display their entry (including in publicly-displayed advertising and in a publicly-distributed winner list) to the Scholarship without any compensation, attribution, or liability.

The Prize

12. Following the end of the Application Period, a panel of judges will judge the valid applications and determine the best entries and award three (3) Scholarships.
13. This is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in determining the winner. Each entry will be individually judged, based upon individual creative merit. The three (3) Scholarships will be awarded based on Creativity (50%), Storytelling (25%) and Execution (25%). We will be weighting your entry based on submitted content (80%) and your 100 word or less answer (20%).
14. Selection of the three (3) Scholarship winners will be conducted at World Nomads office located at Level 18, 1 Farrer Place, Sydney, NSW, 2000, Australia between 2 April and 15 May 2024.
15. Scholarship recipients’ names will be published on the Promoter’s website www.worldnomads.com/creator on or before 15 May 2024.
16. If (having made reasonable efforts) we cannot contact a Scholarship winner, or if any prize is not accepted or claimed by 8 May 2024 (allowing 1-week to respond from first contacted date) that scholarship winner’s entry will be deemed invalid, and we reserve the right to distribute unclaimed scholarships to the next best entry.
17. Each of the three (3) Scholarship recipients will receive:
    • Approximately 3-days of in-person mentoring from professional content creators NOMADasaurus, plus online support until the trip content outputs have been delivered to World Nomads (valued from $2,000 USD). 
    • $500 USD travel budget to use towards the trip thanks to World Nomads. 
    • Return economy airfare from the recipients nearest international airport to Thailand, courtesy of World Nomads (valued at up to $2,000 USD).
    • GoPro HERO12 Black worth RRP $422 USD and the travel kit worth RRP $65 USD.
    • Accommodation in Bangkok from 14-18 June at Avani+ Riverside thanks to Minor Hotel Group and Tourism Authority of Thailand worth approximately $487 USD. 
    • Accommodation from 18-24 June in Thailand worth approximately $974 USD at one of the three (3) separate trips as follows (winner’s trip decided by World Nomads): 
      • Winner 1: Krabi: x3 nights, 1 room at Avani Ao Nang and x3 nights, 1 room at Avani+ Koh Lanta  
      • Winner 2: Phuket: x3 nights, 1 room at Avani Mai Khao and x3 nights 1 room at Avani+ Khao Lak 
      • Winner 3: Koh Samui: x3nights, 1 room at Avani Chaweng and x3 nights, 1 room at Avani+ Samui 
    • CARGO HAULER XT 32" WHEELED DUFFEL from Eagle Creek worth $369 USD and the PACK-IT™ REVEAL CUBE SET XS/S/M worth $36 USD.
    • $150 USD to put towards a travel insurance policy to cover the duration of the assignment trip. The winner is required to purchase the policy via a reputable travel insurance provider and provide World Nomads with proof of purchase, at which point we will reimburse the winner up to the value of $150 USD. The winner should ensure the policy suits their individual objectives, needs and financial situation.
    • Total prize valued at $7,003 USD.
18. The value of the prizes is accurate at the date of commencement of the Program. World Nomads accepts no responsibility for any variation in the value of the prizes after that date. The prize cannot be refunded, transferred, substituted or redeemed for cash. World Nomads reserves the right in its sole discretion to substitute the prizes with cash or a prize of comparable value if the prizes cannot be awarded as described for any reason.
19. The Scholarship recipients’ will be responsible for all personal expenses and any other expenses, fees and costs connected with the prize that are not included in the prize description.
20. The winners are responsible for ensuring that they have valid passports, and any required visas, vaccinations and travel documentation for travel to Thailand. World Nomads reserves the right to substitute a prize of comparable or greater value for any prize. The prize, or any unused portion of the prize, is not exchangeable or transferrable, cannot be extended and cannot be taken as cash if the prize is not fulfilled.
21. All prizes are awarded “as is” and without warranty of any kind, express or implied (including, without limitation, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose). All federal, state and local taxes associated with the receipt or use of any Prize are the sole responsibility of the winner. If the winner is a resident of the United States, the winner will be required to provide a social security number and will be issued a Form 1099.
22. World Nomads will not replace any lost or stolen cash or prize items once they are in the winner’s possession. Any unclaimed and/or unused prize (or portion of a prize package) will remain the property of World Nomads.
23. World Nomads reserves the right to cancel or modify the Program at its discretion. 

Privacy and Marketing Statement

24. The Promoter will handle your Personal Information in accordance with its Privacy Policy. You may request access or to update your Personal Information or lodge a complaint by emailing the Privacy Officer at privacy@worldnomads.com. You can view World Nomads' privacy policy at https://www.worldnomads.com/privacy
25. World Nomads collects entrants’ Personal Information for the purpose of conducting and promoting this Scholarship (including but not limited to determining and notifying the winners). By entering into the Competition, Entrants consent to World Nomads disclosing their Personal Information to the various partners, and World Nomads’ related entities to process and deliver the Scholarship, and to improve World Nomads’ products and services.
26. By entering the Competition, Entrants acknowledge that a further primary purpose for collection of the Personal Information is to contact the Entrant in the future with information about World Nomads, including special offers, market research or to provide marketing materials via mail, commercial electronic messages (SMS (Short Message Service) and email or any other form of non-real time electronic, emerging, digital or conventional communications channel whether existing now or in the future.
27. World Nomads may share an Entrant's Personal Information with its Australian and overseas related companies, promotional partners, employees, agents and trusted third parties who may contact the Entrant for their legitimate commercial purposes. By entering the Competition, Entrants acknowledge and agree that World Nomads and any applicable third parties may use their Personal Information in the manner set out in this condition.
28. The Entrants will participate in all reasonable promotional activities in relation to the Scholarship, as requested by World Nomads and their agents. This may include the winners’ names, likeness, images and/or voices (including photograph, film and/or recording of the same), in any media worldwide for whatever purpose and without notification, remuneration or compensation, for marketing and or promotional purposes, for an indefinite period.
29. Personal information including Entrant’s name, email, intent to travel, country of residence and email will be collected and used for the purpose of conducting this Competition and associated marketing activities. This may require disclosure to third parties including Tourism Authority of Thailand, GoPro, Eagle Creek, Minor Hotel Group, NOMADasaurus and World Nomads’ agents or third party service providers, for the purpose of conducting the Competition and associated marketing activities.
30. Please refer to World Nomads’ Privacy Policy for more information about how we use your Personal Information at http://www.worldnomads.com/privacy, Privacy Policy UK and IE at https://www.worldnomads.com/privacy/notice-for-uk-and-ireland and Privacy Policy EEA: https://www.worldnomads.com/privacy/notice-for-EEA . We will not share your contact information with partners without your consent (as indicated by the checked boxes on the website).
31. If you have marked the “opt-in” box on the entry form relating to a third party collecting your Personal Information, you consent to World Nomads sharing your Personal Information with Tourism Authority of Thailand, GoPro, Minor Hotel Group, and Eagle Creek and the storage of your Personal Information on their database/s. Tourism Authority of Thailand, GoPro, Minor Hotel Group, and Eagle Creek may use this information for their future promotional and marketing purposes regarding their products and services including contacting you via electronic messaging provided that where required by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Tourism Authority of Thailand, GoPro, Minor Hotel Group, and Eagle Creek communications will include a functional unsubscribe facility in each direct marketing communication it sends you that you may use to opt-out of any further such communications and provided that the functional unsubscribe facility complies with the Spam Regulations 2021 (Cth). You should contact Tourism Authority of Thailand, GoPro, Minor Hotel Group, and Eagle Creek or any relevant third party/ies for their privacy policy/ies. 

Limitations of Liability/Releases

32. Subject to Applicable Law, by entering the Scholarship, the winner agrees that their acceptance is conditional upon their compliance with all relevant laws, rules and regulations. You release Promoter and all Released Parties from any liability whatsoever, and waive any and all causes of action, related to any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the Scholarship or delivery, misdelivery, acceptance, possession, use of, or inability to use, any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light, whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty or other theory except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
33. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limit, exclude or modify or purports to limit, exclude or modify the statutory consumer guarantees as provided under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), as well as any other implied warranties or similar consumer protection laws in the State and Territories of Australia, or any other similar laws applicable in the country of the Entrant.
    

Name and likeness rights

34. If you are a selected as a winner, except where prohibited by law, by entering into the Competition, you consent and give permission to the use of your name, city of residence, likeness and prize information, without limitation, for World Nomads’ advertising, marketing, and promotional purposes (including in publicly-displayed advertising and in a publicly-distributed winner list) without further permission or compensation. As a condition of being awarded any prize, except where prohibited by law, a winner may be required to execute a consent to the use of their name, hometown, aural and visual likeness and prize information, without limitation, for advertising, marketing, and promotional purposes without further permission or compensation.

License to submissions

35. By entering the Competition and submitting your Submission to World Nomads in connection with the Competition, you hereby grant to World Nomads a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide, nonexclusive license to publish, reproduce, display, perform, distribute, adapt, edit, modify, translate, create derivative works based upon, and otherwise use and sublicense your Submission, or any portion thereof, in connection with the Competition and for other advertising, marketing and promotional purposes, and to incorporate Submissions, in whole or in part, into other works in any manner, form, media or technology now known or later developed. World Nomads will have no obligation to publish or use or retain any Submission you submit or to return any such Submission to you. You agree that it is your sole responsibility to obtain all permissions and releases necessary for the grant of the rights contained in this paragraph and these Terms and Conditions. You agree to take, at World Nomads expense, any further action (including, without limitation, execution of affidavits and other documents) reasonably requested by World Nomads to effect, perfect or confirm World Nomads’ rights as set forth above and in these Official Rules.

No Facebook or Other Social Media Platform Endorsement

36. This Competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook, Inc. or any other social media platform (each, a “Social Media Platform”). You understand and acknowledge that by using and interacting with any Social Media Platform, you are subject to the terms, conditions, and policies that govern the use of such Social Media Platform. You should therefore review the applicable terms and policies for each Social Media Platform (such as facebook.com, www.twitter.com, www.instagram.com, www.tiktok.com) including privacy and data gathering practices, before using or interacting with a Social Media Platform.
