Am I covered by travel insurance if my bags are delayed?

As we’ve recently changed our insurer, please select the date you bought your policy for more information:

Policies purchased on or after 1 Nov 2018 (GMT)

Policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018 (GMT)

For policies purchased on or after 1 Nov 2018, your World Nomads policy is backed by certain underwriters at Lloyd's:

If your bags do not reach you and have been delayed in arriving by 24 hours or more on your outward journey, you can make a claim for necessary and essential clothing, toiletries and medications.

What you need to do if your bags are delayed

  • You must notify the carrier immediately and obtain a written Property Irregularity Report (PIR).

  • Keep all of your receipts for the necessities you buy. Make sure these receipts are time and date stamped prior to receiving your baggage.

  • Keep any luggage checks and air tickets as they may be needed to support your claim.

What’s not covered

Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the full description of cover in the policy wording so there are no surprises if you do need to use it.
There's no cover for:

  • The purchase of essential items if your bags are delayed on the way home to your country of residence (it’s expected that you’ll have other clothes to wear once your return home).

  • Any items that wouldn’t be considered essential, such as toiletries, basic clothing and underwear.

  • Any items purchased within the 24 hours after your scheduled arrival time at your destination abroad.

  • Anything mentioned in the General or specific exclusions.

Note: For policies purchased between 1 November 2018 and 16 January 2019, your World Nomads policy is backed by certain underwriters at Lloyd’s.
For policies purchased between 17 Jan 2019 and 31 July 2019, your World Nomads policy is backed by Lloyd’s Insurance Company SA.

For policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018, your World Nomads policy is backed by Millstream:

If your bags have been delayed by a specific time period (depending on what plan you have), you can make a claim for necessary and essential clothing, toiletries and medications that you cannot live without.

If your bags do not reach you and have been delayed by 24 hours or more on your outward journey, you can make a claim for necessary and essential clothing, toiletries and medications that you cannot live without.
