We understand that many travellers may have an ongoing medical or dental condition but unfortunately pre-existing medical conditions cannot be covered.
As part of our insurance cover we will assess any medical-related claim, which may include verifying:
- When you booked segments of your trip;
- When you bought your travel insurance;
- When you first knew of any pre-existing medical condition(s).
What is a pre-existing medical condition?
The following definition can help determine if you, your travel companion, an immediate relative or someone upon whom your trip depends has a pre-existing medical condition. If any of the following exist at the time you buy or extend your policy, start your trip or book a new trip, then we’ll consider that you have a pre-existing medical condition:
- Any medical or dental condition, or related complication that has required or is awaiting medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, prescribed medication, consultations, check-ups, surgery, tests or investigations in the 180 days before you buy or extend your policy or book your trip (whichever you do last).
Don’t forget, if you had symptoms of a condition or were undergoing investigations for it at the time you bought your policy, we consider that to be a pre-existing medical condition.

Also be aware that any medical claim submitted will have the policy excess applied.
