Vietnam is a land of breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and mouthwatering cuisine. Whether you're wandering through Hanoi's bustling streets, cruising Halong Bay, or exploring the lush Mekong Delta, Vietnam offers something for every traveller. But as with any international trip, having the right travel insurance should be top of mind throughout your journey.

Read on to find out how World Nomads’ travel insurance can help you navigate the unknown while overseas.

What’s covered

Our policies can offer cover, up to policy limits, for a range of benefits including:

  • Medical emergencies: Healthcare costs can add up quickly in a foreign country. If you fall ill or get injured, travel insurance covers medical expenses, including evacuation if necessary.
  • Trip cancellations or delays: Unforeseen events like flight cancellations or delays can disrupt your plans. World Nomads can help you recoup non-refundable expenses.
  • Adventure activities: Planning to go motorbiking through Vietnam or exploring its caves? World Nomads offers coverage for a variety of adventure activities.

World Nomads offers two types of travel insurance plan, Standard and Explorer. Each plan provides different levels of cover so it’s important to choose the plan that best suits your travel plans and the level of cover you need. If you’re not sure about something, you can contact our customer service team.

Why consider travel insurance for Vietnam?

Travel insurance provides coverage for unexpected events that can disrupt your trip. From trip cancellations due to unexpected events, to assistance if your passport is stolen in Hoi An, World Nomads travel insurance can help if things don’t go quite right on your Vietnam trip.

Imagine hiking the Fansipan mountain and you trip and injure yourself, requiring a local hospital transfer or even medical evacuation. Or picture landing in Hanoi, only to discover your luggage didn’t make the journey. We may help cover the cost of replacing your essentials so you don’t miss out on exploring the bustling Old Quarter.

What’s not covered

Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything. There are some things that we simply do not cover. These include:

  • Participation in a sport or activity not listed in the policy wording, or one that's offered by World Nomads, but you haven't paid the required additional premium.
  • Not following your treating doctor’s directions and/or those of our Emergency Assistance Team.
  • Existing medical conditions.
  • Stolen, lost or damaged personal belongings that were left unguarded.
  • Incidents resulting from reckless behaviour.
  • Being intoxicated by alcohol or drugs or acting illegally.
  • Expenses you have not made every reasonable attempt to recover from the carrier, accommodation provider, booking or travel agents, any compensation scheme, or other source.

Always check the terms and conditions of your policy. If you’re not sure about something or have any questions, contact us.

Safety and travel tips for Vietnam

  1. Beware of traffic chaos: Traffic in cities like Hanoi can be overwhelming. Stay vigilant when crossing streets.
  2. Drink responsibly: Vietnam’s nightlife is exciting, but always keep an eye on your drinks to avoid spiking.
  3. Stay hydrated: Vietnam’s tropical climate can be draining. Carry bottled water to avoid dehydration.
  4. Secure your belongings: Petty theft can happen in tourist areas. Use anti-theft bags and avoid displaying valuables.
