World Nomads Create Scholarships Photography 2015 Applications First Of All They Are Kids First of all they are kids by Julia Wimmerlin Myanmar Shares Facebook Twitter Strangers rarely enter the dormitory of apprentice monks with monastery's high discipline and tight schedule. When we entered and started photographing, trying to stay low profile, the kids continued their games during a pre-lunch pause With the monastery household work, studying and praying the kids have little free time. So this dormitory time is one of the highlights of the monks' day where they can concentrate of their games and ignore whatever happens around These apprentice monks are first of all kids who are as curious as any other kids. While the strict discipline suggests the monks concentrate on their own business, they start observing us the same way we observe them through our lenses As the time passed the apprentice monks' curiosity got the better of them (and the courage level increased since we were showing them the shots we took on the camera screen). One group of kids gently took the camera of the hands of my friend and tried to photograph with it whilst the other group was studying my camera very closely This was truly a photographing the photographer moment. These kids, who have never been holding a camera in their hands took one of the most precious portraits of me, the one I'll cherish all my life remembering that moment
