Pushkar is a quaint little lake town in the midst of the Thar Desert. Every year this sleepy town gets stirred by the hustle bustle of thousands of camels and livestock animals, all decked up for the annual Pushkar animal fair. What started as a village fair organized to trade animals soon put Pushkar on the world map attracting tourists from all over the world.

All the animals are groomed for the fair since the best looking animal usually fetches the best price. The horns of cattle are shaped and coloured, the tails of horses are trimmed to varying lengths and the camels are decorated with bells and tassels. The camel fur is shaved in ways to reveal interesting designs resembling tattoos.

The five day fair sees villagers who have travelled for several days and hundreds of kilometers with their humped animals. These villagers make the fair ground their home for the duration of the fair.
