The workers are residents of the community, with no governmental aid, they try to keep it operational (they still use traditional methods of tannery). They work from 7:00 am to 6:00pm everyday. Young boys on their daily work, spreads wet snake hides to dry, they work at the tannery every day to raise a livelihood since their parent cannot afford western education. Most of the workers live in the community and learn at an early age, to understand the rudiments of the trade Abubakar in his 60's, checks the snake hides for moisture, the tannery is the only way he supports his family. In heydeys, the tannery was in high production of animal skins, supplying large quantities to international companies but 100 years down the road, production rates declined. One of the traditional ways to smoothen the animal skin (snake) is by rubbing on a rough stone, this young boy is learning the act from his uncle, who sits and inspects as he perform his task. At the end of the day's work, the simonized hides of good quality are selected and stored for the next delivery. The tannery depends solely on a middleman for it's market, who buys at a cheaper price and sells to the international market at a higher price.
