World Nomads Create Scholarships Photography 2019 Applications La Viviana Uruguayan Traditions La Viviana - Uruguayan Traditions by Tomas Alexander (Netherlands) Uruguay Shares Facebook Twitter During a hot day in the mountains of Aiguá, the iron is heated in the wheelbarrow to mark the cattle. The establishment is located in the Valdivia area, a few meters from the Cathedral Hill, the highest area of the Uruguayan countryside. The day begins. The sound of iron touching the skin is smooth and pungent. The cattle doesn't cry, nor does it scream. But it moves, mindlessly where it can. The mark on the skin gets messed up and Hugo gets upset. But he doesn't have time for that. He goes on with the next, and then the next. The dust that arises is dry and heavy. Mixed with the harsh high temperatures, it sticks to you and weaves into your skin like a tick. The taste of the wilderness penetrates into your blood. For Hugo this tastes like home. The rays of light flood the shed, Hugo moves among the cattle with an enviable experience. He knows exactly what they need and how to treat them. As he moves, Hugo appears to be dancing, knowing precisely every step of the choreography. The connection flows smoothly throughout the day. The day ends with a quiet ride on his horse. Enjoying the abundant views while at the same time ensuring that everything runs smoothly at the far edges of the field. Because here the work day never stops. But never alone, always with his faithful companion, his dog called "Chiquito".
